Usually, I post informative articles about health and wellness, but for this article, I am sharing about a fundraiser that I am involved in called Smile Train. Smile Train performs reconstructive surgery for cleft lip. While many people are aware that it is one on humans, Smile Train also performs it on pet dogs.

Cleft lip is caused when the "tissues in the baby's face and mount don't fuse properly." There is no known causes. It is largely genetic, although there may be environmental causes. Cleft lip is more likely to occur when pregnant women smoke or drink alcohol during pregnancy. Taking prenatal vitamins during pregnancy can reduce the risk of child developing cleft lip.
